Dental Implants In Denver / Boulder Colorado

Hundreds of patients in Denver/Boulder and Colorado have dental implants placed each year. This ability to add a tooth where it is needed has changed the way dentistry is practiced around the world.

Implants can be used to hold single crowns to replace a single tooth, or multiple crowns and bridges to replace multiple teeth or replace all teeth.

There are many benefits from dental implants. When teeth are lost, ongoing shrinkage of the jawbone occurs, which can cause the face to look older. More importantly, this shrinkage can also make adequate fit of a partial or full denture difficult. Placing implants can slow or stop this process.

Dental implants look, feel, and function like natural teeth, and offer a tremendous improvement in comfort, speech, eating, and convenience over conventional partial and full dentures.

Protect Your Teeth On Your Harley Video

The number one way to protect your teeth (and your face and your head) on a motorcycle is - wear a helmet!

Hey it's Anastaisa with Hump Day Happenings - I'm here in sunny Orlando Florida Harley Davidson motorcycle dealership checking out a bike with heritage, if you will.

Now, Harley is all about safety. They have schools to help you learn how to drive, they have passenger awareness - there's a lot going on. So the dental hygienist in me was thinking - Do you ride safely for your teeth?

When you do ride, you want to protect your smile. You could be investing in dental implants, braces, cosmetic dentistry - anything you have going on, you want to keep healthy. How are you going to do that and enjoy the ride?

You're going to wear a helmet. Make sure the helmet covers your face, you've got a shield going on, so nothing will interfere with you and your mouth and protects the investment that you've chosen to keep it healthy.

Even Adult Teeth Can Erupt

tooth super eruptionI always thought that my adult teeth erupted (for me, when I was 10), got their positions, and stopped there. As it turns out, our back (molar) teeth basically keep erupting until they meet another tooth (like the upper teeth meeting the lower teeth when you bite).

This works great until you loose a tooth for one reason or another - in this case, your other teeth actually can start erupting again (called supra eruption) to "fill the gap". This can actually result in exposed and possibly sensitive root surfaces in the erupting teeth. Also, supra erupted teeth become harder to keep clean due to their uneven positioning, enhancing the risk of losing another tooth.

This is part of why restorative treatments like dental implants, bridges, or dentures are recommended in Denver - so the other teeth in your mouth don't begin moving around and causing other problems.

Tooth Regrowth Using Our Own Stem Cells

People who have lost some or all of their adult teeth typically look to dentures, or, more recently, dental implants to improve a toothless appearance. Despite being the preferred treatment for missing teeth nowadays, dental implants can fail and .

So thank you Columbia University Medical Center. Why am I thanking CUMC? Because the research they are doing might just help you grow a few  new teeth using your own stem cells.

In simplest terms, the process is like this:missing teeth stem cell tooth regeneration

  • Insert a special scaffold made of natural materials
  • Direct stem cells within the body to the scaffold
  • Let the body do needs to for about nine weeks

In an animal study, this recipe has shown success in growing a fully integrated, new, natural tooth in place of a missing tooth. In addition, alveolar bone and periodontal ligaments grew to support the tooth. The only outside substance required for the procedure is the human molar scaffold, made from natural materials.

It almost makes me want to lose a tooth just so I can try growing it back. Almost.

Woman Lives With Baby Teeth for 28 Years

According to a story on Dentristry.co.uk, Emily Cheeseman was born with hypodontia, a condition where a number of adult teeth don't develop. In Cheeseman's case, not only did her permanent teeth not come in, her six front baby teeth stayed put. She recently had those baby teeth removed in order to make room for new dental implants.

hypodontia baby teethAccording to dentists, baby teeth usually appear at around five or six months, with all 20 baby teeth usually showing up by age 2 ½. By five, the first permanent tooth comes in with most permanent teeth (with the exception of wisdom teeth) arriving at around age 12 or 13. And in most cases, the permanent tooth's arrival heralds the demise of the baby tooth (not to mention the arrival of the tooth fairy). But if a permanent tooth doesn't come in, dentists say that it's not unusual for a baby tooth to stick around.

General the condition, hypodontia isn't anything to rush to the dentist about but some researchers believe that it might be associated with some genetic conditions such as ovarian cancer.

Emily decided at the age of 28 to have her 6 baby teeth removed and replaced with dental implants but her dentist says that it wouldn't have been impossible to keep those baby teeth the rest of her adult life.
