Dental implants are becoming increasingly
popular for the generation of aging baby boomers, as an alternative to
replacing their worn out natural teeth with bridges or wobbly dentures.
Dental implant costs in the Denver and Front Range area, depending on their health and strength of jaw
below the teeth, can go from three thousand dollars for a
single tooth, to thirty or forty thousand dollars for a full set of teeth (upper and lower implant supported dentures)(see model video).
These are not small figures by anyone's account, but paying the cost of
dental implants to get new teeth that allow you to eat what you want with conficence for almost certainly for the rest of your life is worth considering.
One thing about dental implants costs, however, is
that they are rarely covered by insurance unless the teeth have been lost due to
accidental injury, such as a car accident. However, many dentists have devised methods of
financing to help their patients to absorb the costs of dental implants.
The wide range in dental implant costs is due to the fact that
in those whose bone density of the jaw is not sufficient to securely
hold an implant, bone grafting in the area will be required to grow more or denser bone to host the implant. For those who have healthy bone, however, the costs involved cover the necessary placement of the dental implant itself into the jaw bone, the addition of the titanium post to bring the implant above the gum line, and the artificial tooth or crown that rests on the implant. In some cases, there may actually be three different dentists involved - the dentist placing the implants in your jaw, the dentist who makes the tooth crown (a prosthodontist), and the dentist who places the tooth crown onto the implant.
Titanium is the metal of choice for dental implants
as it is inert, does not cause negative reactions in the tissues where
it is located. While expensive, titanium has been used successfully in tooth replacement for
almost forty years and is one of the few alloys that human bone actually integrates with (osseointegration).
The patient will have a waiting period of between three and six
months, while the titanium implant and jawbone fuse and then go to the
dentist for a pillar to raise the bar above the gum line. At this time
the dentist will also make a mold to be used for the creation of a
porcelain crown to function as a new tooth. These procedures are
included in the cost of dental implant to replace a single tooth.

Recently, dental implants have been placed into the sockets left by recently-missing teeth. This practice may involve the
placement of both temporary crown and a titanium rod into the socket of a
recently extracted tooth and a titanium rod to fill the
socket, making the system more secure than it normally would at this
stage of the process. This technique also shortens the process of healing
and casting up to fifty percent.
While the costs of dental implants can be high, should be weighed
against their permanent nature and their superior results compared to their alternatives.
