| Zinc Removed From Denture Creams |
|
As reported in the Denver Post, denture creams may be causing neurological damage in long-time users, with at least one reported case in Bennet, near Denver, Colorado. Now, amid reports of neurological damage from long-term use of denture
creams, GlaxoSmithKline has decided to pull the products from US
shelves. The products in question are Super Poligrip Original, Ultra
Fresh and Extra Care. GSK has agreed to remove zinc from these products.
Over 30 million people are estimated to wear dentures and I would wager
that most of them are ill-fitting. This explains why sales of denture
adhesive products are so lucrative.
Lawsuits have alleged that zinc caused neurological damage to
long-term users. Now that the trials are drawing close, it will be
interesting to see if a settlement will be reached. Pulling the products
off the shelf certainly doesn't look good before a court case.
